Mini FAQ below for the many questions I received on my YouTube channel. Thanks for all the love guys. If you have any other questions, just ask! I won't bite :)
TANK MINI FAQ:
1. What plants do you have in the tank? See mapout photo
2. What brand of tank is that and how many gallons? 4 US gallons, forgot the brand :S
3. Where did you get the bamboo? We had a bamboo plant in the backyard. Please do not use bamboo from home decor stores, they're usually treated with pesticide.
4. Is the bamboo a live plant? No, it was already dead and dried when I harvested it. This is the tall bamboo plant, not lucky bamboo type.
5. Can I use lucky bamboo instead of dried bamboo? It's ok if you keep the leaves above the water line. If you keep them completely submerged, it will rot and mess up your water quality.
6. How do you make the bamboo stand still? I have placed weights on the bottom end and stuck them under one inch of sandy gravel.
7. How do you keep the bamboo sticks from rotting? I haven't. Even though it was dried properly, it eventually started showing signs of rot at 6 months. Basically everything organic will rot in water eventually (including driftwood, but at a much much more slower rate). Just replace them as needed.
8. How do you do water changes without messing up the set up? Water changes are done by siphoning the old water out using an air line tube. I also siphon out visible debris in between water changes, this keeps the water cleaner longer. I changed the water every 3 weeks for this tank. The hang on back filter helps too.
EDIT: It's been years since this blog entry was posted, but I still keep getting inquiries about the Buddha I've used. I can no longer find the actual statue that I've used on my tank, but this is a suitable replacement. It's slightly larger however, so keep that in mind when planning your tank. I appreciate all your inquiries and comments! Let me know if you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them when I have time!

Great idea!I am going to make my own! It looks unbelieveable!
where'd you find that buddah statue? i've been lookin all over for a nice small one.
@Mugurel: Thanks! Send pics when your tank is done, I like seeing how other people interpret the buddha tank :)
@Anonymous: Got it from ebay. Mine looks a bit different because I sanded it down then rubbed grout stain on it. Its original color is ivory white, not gray :)
how is ur background look cloudy ...
@K Not sure what you meant by "cloudy"? I don't have a background for this tank. What you're seeing is the tank light casting light/shadows on the wall :)
I really love this tank. I'd like to do the same. So the baby's tears don't need to be rooted to gravel? It can just float on the top?
Also, did you have to pre-soak your bamboo to remove the tannic acid? Did you have problems with it making your water cloudy?
can you please send me a link from where to get that wonderful buddha statue from? i cant find it on ebay.. they have a different one and its not specified that its for aquarium purpose please help me . . .

search ebay for "Serene Buddha Statue". Its Alabastrite so it should be okay to use. My only issue is that it came with a felt pad glued to the bottom. I plan to use a belt sander I have to remove the pad.
where can I get those dried out bamboo sticks without the pesticides? I really love your tank and might make that for my two awesome bettas!
Congrats on it!!!
Amazing work! what's the proper way to dry and weight your dead bamboo stalks?
Yes please tell us how you weighted the bamboo stalks!
Where did you buy the statue from? I searched and searched in ebay and amazon, but couldn't find the 'alabastrite' one (only bronze and brass)

I just love this tank and it was one of the thing that really inspired me to get a Betta!! I haven't gotten one yet but I cant wait to get him and to build him a lovely home! Check out my blog I just had to show people the tank that inspired project Betta!!
Wow absolutely gorgeous!
I have been a frequent visitor to your blog and I must say I remember your work quite often, it is that amazing. If I were to be a millionaire I would invite you to open a company with me. Your work is original and speechless. Nachiketa (Canada)
I believe thats a Finnex 4 gallon tank for those that were asking. What is the lighting that you are using for the tank? Also what watt heater? Where do you recommend to get non-treated bamboo? Fantastic tank, an inspiration.

How did you make your statue sinked? My is floated.
Hi there, this is the most beautiful aquarium i have ever seen. EVER. You are so talented!
How did you know the buddha was safe to use? Was it from an aquarium supplier, or did you boil that too? And by the way, per the previous post, how did you make it sink?
Thanks.
Beautiful aquarium, I have seen a buddha made of - Polystone is a material made from a mix of stone and resin.
Would this be ok to put in an aquarium. After seeing this tank I am going out to buy one tomorrow.
also what sort of gravel stones have you used, if you could let me know.
Finally how did you keep your buddha from floating.
Sands
Absolutely beautiful! I keep coming back to watch your video! What soil did you use?
hi , can you tell me which material is that buddha statue and what other material can we put in aquarium?
I love your tank! However, i dont think i can get bamboo shoots! is there any other alternatives to it?
Hey I've really liked your planted Buddha betta tank and I want to do something similar. my problem is i don't know what ground you used for it? And there are places near me i can get dried bamboo its just they might have a chemical on them so what could i do to the dried bamboo that might have chemicals to make them safe?
hi! love your tank, do you have any problem with algae on the gravel? if so how do you clean it? thx
Wow this looks amazing! I'm sure this wouldn't look quite as fabulous as the actual bamboo in the tank but I've seen bamboo themed wall decals that could be adhered to the back of the tank. I have no idea how it would end up looking but might be worth a try if you can't find bamboo!
Nice beta set up
I got some bamboo stalks and boiled them for 2hours still it made my tank cloudy and ultimately led my Betta to die 😒 sir please tell us the right way to treat bamboo from wild before putting in our tanks?
Hi there! I absolutely love this design and want to try coming up with a similar one. I was looking into using these bamboo sticks: http://www.joshsfrogs.com/josh-s-frogs-bamboo-tube-2-ft.html pesticide free and dried, suitable for animal habitats.
I've tried to read up on putting dried bamboo in aquariums and how it reacts, etc. Is there anything you did to the bamboo before you put it in the tank besides adding weight to the bottom of the stalk? I'm a little hesitant as I don't want my fish to have any bad reactions to it.
very beautiful.
